The raging fires in the Middle East are fast becoming an inferno.

The Secretary-General is extremely concerned with the escalation of the conflict in Lebanon.
He appeals for an immediate ceasefire. An all-out war must be avoided in Lebanon at all costs, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon must be respected.
I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict, with escalation after escalation.
This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire.
The Secretary-General is gravely concerned by the dramatic escalation of events in Beirut in the last 24 hours.

The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, begins an official visit to Israel today. She is set to meet with senior Israeli officials to discuss recent developments.
