UNSCOL Staff Connect with Hopes and Struggles of Lebanese youth Through VR Experience

On the occasion of Innovation Day last week, UNSCOL staff put on their VR headsets to watch the documentary movie "Dreaming of Lebanon."

This interactive VR documentary, produced by UNSCOL and UNDDPA’s innovation cell, offers an immersive journey into the lives of three young Lebanese, capturing their hopes, struggles, and dreams for the future.

The movie features interviews with Rafik, Josephine, and Batoul — each from different regions and backgrounds. Through their stories, viewers explore the realities faced by many in Lebanon during a period of crisis, including after the devastating 2020 Beirut Port explosion.

Staff feedback was very emotional; they truly enjoyed the experience and found it highly creative. Many were amazed by how easily they could connect with the characters.
Each Staff interviewed after the screening said they connected with one of the characters  – between working mother, the young Lebanese from Tripoli in north Lebanon, and the young scientist. Overall, everyone appreciated the depth and humanity portrayed in the film.

Some colleagues emphasized how realistic the documentary felt, reflecting the poignancy of Lebanon’s challenging reality and expressing hope for change. The use of VR technology added a unique dimension, making the stories even more tangible and allowing viewers to feel present in the lives of the characters.

Most importantly, this experience reminded everyone of the importance of talking of Lebanon, listening to the voices of its youth, and of continuing to work toward a future where their dreams can be realized.
