The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Ms. Joanna Wronecka is deeply concerned by the gradual expansion in the exchange of fire across the Blue Line in scope, scale and intensity, which increases the risks of a broader conflagration and undermines Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).  She urges an immediate halt to this dangerous cycle of violence and return to a cessation of hostilities.

Regretting the impact of the fighting on civilian lives and property and the displacement of thousands of border residents, the Special Coordinator reiterated the urgent need to adhere to international humanitarian law and to the protection of civilians at all times.

In exercise of her good offices, the Special Coordinator has intensified her engagement with all stakeholders towards urgent steps for de-escalation. She has also encouraged concerted efforts by international partners to help the parties find sustainable solutions that enhance security and stability along the Blue Line. 

The Special Coordinator remains committed to supporting a political process towards a permanent ceasefire and long-term solution to the conflict as envisaged in resolution 1701.

المنسقة الخاصة للأمم المتحدة تدعو الى وقف التصعيد واتخاذ خطوات نحو حلول طويلة المدى

أعربت المنسقة الخاصة للأمم المتحدة في لبنان السيدة يوانا فرونِتسكا عن قلقها العميق إزاء التوسع التدريجي في تبادل إطلاق النار عبر الخط الأزرق من حيث المساحة والكثافة، مما يزيد من مخاطر اندلاع نزاع أوسع نطاقا ويقوض قرار مجلس الأمن رقم 1701 (2006). وحثت على الوقف الفوري لدوامة العنف الخطيرة والعودة إلى وقف الأعمال العدائية.

وأعربت المنسقة الخاصة عن أسفها لتأثير القتال على حياة المدنيين وممتلكاتهم ونزوح الآلاف من سكان المناطق الحدودية، واعادت التأكيد على الحاجة الملحة إلى الالتزام بالقانون الإنساني الدولي وحماية المدنيين في جميع الأوقات.

في إطار ممارسة مساعيها الحميدة، كثفت المنسقة الخاصة تواصلها مع جميع المعنيين من أجل اتخاذ خطوات عاجلة لوقف التصعيد. كما شجعت على بذل جهود متضافرة من قبل الشركاء الدوليين لمساعدة الأطراف على إيجاد حلول مستدامة تعزز الأمن والاستقرار على طول الخط الأزرق.

وأكدت المنسقة الخاصة على التزامها بدعم عملية سياسية تؤدي إلى وقف دائم لإطلاق النار وإيجاد حل طويل الأمد للصراع على النحو المنصوص عليه في القرار 1701.
