Conference on Role of Media as a Bridge for Civilizations and Importance of Ethical Reporting

The National News Agency launched a two-day conference on the role of  media as a bridge among civilizations and a focal point for dialogue. The conference highlighted the role of the media as a bridge among civilizations but also underlined the responsibility of the media for ethical and accurate reporting. Minister of Information Melhem Riachi said the media was a medium for dialogue and revealed plans to transform the Ministry of Information into a ministry for dialogue and communication that would not only serve Lebanon but also the region and the world. Laure Sleiman, Director of the National News Agency said the media had transformed into a modern and civilizational language capable of facing changes but with responsibilities. UN Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag said the media had an important role to play in our changing world and with the advent of new technologies. The Special Coordinator said journalists contribute to building a better world but underlined the importance of ethical, independent and responsible reporting, which is key to promoting inclusive societies and offering people an opportunity to judge independently.
