My meeting today with Speaker Berri was very good. We discussed recent developments.
The issues presently under discussion with regard to the formation of the Government and the nature of the electoral law are entirely for the leaders and people of Lebanon to decide. But as I said after congratulating Prime Minister designate Salam on Monday we hope that there will be early agreement on the issues, and I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Speaker Berri for his tireless efforts to achieve consensus in particular in respect of the electoral law.
I also briefed Speaker Berri on my visit to south Lebanon yesterday, what I had heard and seen of the great efforts being made by communities and the United Nations to help with the displaced there, notwithstanding the limited resources available.
