OIC UNSCOL Jean Arnault spent two days in border areas of south Lebanon. He met with local authorities and residents of the towns of Dibil and Zibqin who shared their experiences of life marked by conflict, including limited access to supplies and services and the rest of the country in light of the continued Israeli military presence and restrictions on movements. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to helping address their humanitarian needs and to continue seeking solutions for longer-term peace, security and stability.

Mr. Arnault also visited UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura where he met with its Head of Mission and Force Commander Lt Gen. Diodato Abagna and with UN peacekeepers from different troop contributing countries. He was moved by their sense of purpose and commitment to continue working for peace and security in south Lebanon even at personal risk and as the mission was preparing for the approaching end of its mandate.
