I just had a good meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
First, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the return of calm to Sidon and to reiterate our support, the support indeed of the UN Secretary-General, for the role of the army in that regard and for its role in general in safeguarding security in Lebanon.
The discussions with the caretaker Prime Minister focused on the UN’s support for Lebanon in different areas, including of course with regard to the Syrian refugees and the Lebanese communities hosting them as well as our cooperation with and support for the Lebanese army.
I briefed Prime Minister Mikati on Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s report, which will be published in the next day or two, on resolution 1701 and its implementation and what we can do to help or to encourage help for Lebanon during this period.
