I had an extremely good meeting with Minister Mashnouq. I congratulated him on his appointment and on the formation of the new government.
The United Nations has cooperation with his ministry in many fields, including support for elections, and of course we are deeply concerned with Lebanon’s security and stability.
I personally, UNIFIL in the south, many UN agencies, we cooperate and work with the ministry in order to help Lebanon to stay as safe as it can in these very difficult circumstances. I was very impressed with what I heard from the minister about his concerns and priorities; I know that we will be working very closely with him during the period of this government and I wish him every success in all that he is doing.
