I just had a good meeting with caretaker Minister (Faysal) Karameh. Before that, I met with parliamentarians from the Future bloc and I also met with security representatives. I will also be meeting later today with representatives of other parties and with members of civil society.
This is not my first visit to Tripoli. I have been to Tripoli several times before. It is a marvellous historic city and deserves much better than the recent events and the appalling cycle of violence of the past years.
It is vital that the cycle of violence stop in order to safeguard stability. It is also important to support the security authorities, particularly the Lebanese army, in these circumstances so that they can safeguard the rule of law and stability. This is what is important for Tripoli, for Lebanon and for the region as a whole. The focus should be on achieving cam, prosperity, development, coexistence and a better life for all. People want to live a normal life and not in chaos.
