The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Sigrid Kaag, yesterday met with French Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Jean-Marc Ayrault and other senior officials from the Foreign Ministry and Quai d'Orsay in Paris.
Discussions focused on the need for continued coordinated international support for Lebanon to address the multiple challenges the country faces, particularly those arising from the impact of the conflict in neighboring Syria. The Special Coordinator commended the long-standing engagement of the Government of France in support of Lebanon. The discussions with the Foreign Minister also addressed the political situation in Lebanon and the urgent need for all parties to facilitate the functioning of State institutions and delivery of public services – as well as to resolve the prolonged presidential vacuum, which has impaired Lebanon’s ability to address the security, economic, social and humanitarian challenges facing the country.
While reiterating the UN’s strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon, Special Coordinator Kaag underscored the crucial role played by the Lebanese Armed Forces and security forces in extending and sustaining the authority of the State and supporting the country’s stability. The visit to Paris is part of the Special Coordinator’s ongoing consultations with regional and international stakeholders.
المنسق الخاص للأمم المتحدة في لبنان سيغريد كاغ تزور باريس

إلتقت المنسق الخاص للأمم المتحدة في لبنان السيدة سيغريد كاغ يوم أمس في باريس مع وزير خارجية فرنسا السيد جان مارك أيرولت وكبار المسؤولين في وزارة الخارجية والكاي دورسي. وركزت المباحثات على ضرورة إستمرار الدعم الدولي المنسق للبنان لمواجهة التحديات المتعددة التي تواجه البلاد، خاصةً تلك الناجمة عن تداعيات الصراع في سوريا. وأشادت المنسق الخاص بالجهود التي تبذلها حكومة فرنسا منذ أمد طويل في دعم لبنان. كما تناول البحث مع وزير الخارجية الوضع السياسي في لبنان والحاجة الملحة لأن تقوم جميع الاطراف بتسهيل عمل مؤسسات الدولة وتقديم الخدمات العامة -- إضافةً إلى معالجة الفراغ الرئاسي المطول والذي أدى إلى تقويض قدرة لبنان على معالجة التحديات الامنية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والانسانية التي تواجه البلاد.
وفيما كررت المنسق الخاص دعم الأمم المتحدة القوي لسلامة لبنان الإقليمية وسيادته واستقلاله السياسي، شدَدت على الدور الحيوي الذي يلعبه الجيش اللبناني والقوى الامنية في بسط وحفظ سلطة الدولة وفي دعم إستقرار البلد. إن الزيارة إلى باريس هي ضمن مشاورات المنسق الخاص الجارية مع الجهات الإقليمية والدولية الفاعلة.
