Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag visits the Al-Hadi institution of the Mabarrat foundation for students with special needs

Human rights is a core pillar of the United Nations. All staff in peace operations have the responsibility to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights through their work.

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag visited today the Al-Hadi institution for students with special needs and the Al-Kawthar school for girls, both part of the Mabarrat foundation in Beirut.  The Special Coordinator stressed the importance of education for all that offers children with different capabilities opportunities. "I am deeply impressed. It reflects very much a humane vision of inclusion of all children regardless of their ability or limitations. It seeks to really get the best out of these children and in doing so, you build a truly inclusive society where all are respected and support is provided," Ms. Kaag said. The UN highlights the importance that civil society associations like the Mabarrat foundation play in promote education for all and inclusive education, all part of the implementation of UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
