We wish to congratulate the Lebanese people and authorities for the completion of Parliamentary elections on 6 May, their first in nine years, in a generally calm and peaceful climate.
The Secretary-General followed with utmost concern reports overnight of missile launches from Syria targeting Israeli positions and retaliatory strikes by the Israel Defense Forces, that followed earlier strikes in Syria on Tuesday, 8 May.

Acting Special Coordinator Kardel visits Lebanese army border post in Ras Baalbek
The Acting United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Kardel visited today the areas of Ras Baalbek and Arsal along Lebanon’s north-eastern borders. Ms. Kardel met with representatives of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and toured the border area.
