Secretary-General Condemns Deadly Suicide Bombings by Terrorists in Lebanon

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns the series of suicide bombings yesterday that hit the Lebanese town of El-Qaa on the north-eastern border with Syria, resulting in numerous civilians killed and injured. He expresses his condolences to the families of the victims of these acts of terrorism and to the Government and people of Lebanon. He wishes a quick recovery to those injured.

 

The United Nations stands firmly by Lebanon as it confronts the threat of terrorism and other security challenges. The Secretary-General commends the vital role played by the Lebanese Armed Forces and security forces and encourages continuous and coordinated international support to their efforts to protect and reinforce Lebanon’s security and stability.
