Following some misleading media reports, the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) would like to reconfirm its position concerning the government formation.

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis has called upon the leadership of Lebanon to urgently nominate the Prime Minister-designate, start the mandatory process of parliamentary consultations and to maximally accelerate the process of the formation of the new government of personalities known for their competence and integrity, trusted by the people. Such a Cabinet, formed in line with the aspirations of the people and supported by the broadest range of political forces through the Parliamentary vote of confidence, will also be in a better position to appeal for support from Lebanon’s international partners.

The Special Coordinator has not otherwise intervened in the details of government formation, its character or its composition as that remains a sovereign matter for Lebanon and its people to decide.

بيان لمكتب المنسق الخاص للأمم المتحدة في لبنان

عقب بعض التقارير الإعلامية المضللة، يود مكتب المنسق الخاص للأمم المتحدة في لبنان (UNSCOL) إعادة تأكيد موقفه حيال موضوع تشكيل الحكومة.

لقد دعا المنسق الخاص للأمم المتحدة في لبنان يان كوبيش القيادة اللبنانية الى تكليف رئيس مجلس وزراء بصورة عاجلة والبدء بعملية الاستشارات النيابية الملزمة والاسراع الى اقصى حد في عملية تشكيل حكومة جديدة من شخصيات معروفة بكفاءتها ونزاهتها وتحظى بثقة الناس. إن هكذا حكومة، التي ستتشكل تماشياً مع تطلعات الشعب وبدعم من أوسع مجموعة من القوى السياسية من خلال التصويت على الثقة في مجلس النواب، ستكون ايضاً بوضع أفضل لطلب الدعم من شركاء لبنان الدوليين.

غير ذلك، إن المنسق الخاص لم يدخل في أي من تفاصيل تشكيل الحكومة أو طابعها أو تركيبتها كون ذلك مسألة سيادية يقررها لبنان وشعبه.
