Officer-in-Charge of UNSCOL Jean Arnault received a delegation representing 86 Members of Parliament, who submitted a petition addressed to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres calling for the renewal of UNIFIL’s mandate. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the delegation’s concerns regarding the situation in Lebanon.
The delegation also shared its grave concerns about the potential consequences should UNIFIL’s mandate not be renewed, and outlined its plans to engage with other Member States in support of the mission’s renewal.
Mr. Arnault thanked the delegation for its appreciation of the United Nations’ role and for its continued support for the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006).
