Mr. Jean Arnault, Officer in Charge of the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL), who took up his position at the beginning of July, held a round of meetings with senior political and security officials in Lebanon. The discussions focused on reinforcing stability and strengthening state institutions in Lebanon and advancing the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). His meetings, including with Lebanon’s President, Parliament Speaker, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Minister of Defense and the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, were an opportunity to review areas of cooperation between Lebanon and the UN.
Mr. Arnault also traveled this week to Israel, where he discussed the current situation with senior Israeli officials.
