Mr. Jean Arnault, who has been appointed as United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, a.i., held this week his first official meetings in Beirut.
Mr. Arnault was received by the President of the Republic, H.E. General Joseph Aoun; the Speaker of Parliament, H.E. Mr. Nabih Berri; and the President of the Council of Ministers, H.E. Mr. Nawaf Salam.
The introductory meetings were an opportunity to discuss salient developments and cooperation between the United Nations and Lebanon to advance the implementation of United Nations resolution 1701 (2006).
“My meetings with the esteemed President, Speaker and Prime Minister were very positive and instructive. The aim was to understand their perspectives on the tasks ahead for Lebanon. I heard one common message: the Lebanese people can and will rise to meet the country’s challenges, together. Of course, the United Nations will continue to be a partner in this regard,” Mr. Arnault stated.
