The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Nawaf Salam, President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Lebanon.
The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister discussed the situation in the Middle East, including Lebanon, as well as efforts towards the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006). The Secretary-General welcomed steps by the Government of Lebanon towards ensuring a state monopoly over weapons and underscored that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon must be fully respected.
He reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to continue supporting the people of Lebanon and to help mobilize the international community in recovery, reconstruction and economic stabilization efforts.
