Good afternoon, I just had good discussions with the Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. Among the issues covered obviously was the situation in south Lebanon and across the Blue Line.
We both agreed on the importance of safeguarding the calm that has prevailed and ensuring the effective implementation of resolution 1701, and welcomed the steps that have been taken by the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL to ensure this.
On the political issues, we agreed that the negative impact of the vacancy in the presidency on the work of state institutions across the board, including here in Parliament, is day by day more evident, underlining the importance of all concerned coming together to ensure the election of a president without further delay.
