UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag Visits Tripoli

The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Ms. Sigrid Kaag visited today Tripoli for an overnight mission to discuss current political, security and socio-economic issues. The Special Coordinator met with senior political figures, religious leaders and with representatives of civil society, including in Jabal Mohsen and Bab El-Tabbaneh.

Ms. Kaag visited in Jabal Mohsen and condemned the 10 January double suicide bombing. In paying tribute to the innocent victims of this attack, she also underlined the need to counter the risk of radicalization through inclusive development in particular employment creation. "Improving socio-economic conditions in the city will contribute to the consolidation of security and stability," said the Special Coordinator.

In the course of her discussions with community and business leaders, Ms. Kaag was encouraged by the commitment and drive of citizens of Tripoli to work together to maintain the social cohesion and coexistence in the city.
