United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert held a round of meetings this week with top Lebanese officials on the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006) following similar engagements last week with senior officials in Israel. Discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Rodolph Haykal, among others, focused on challenges to and opportunities for the implementation of resolution 1701 and the cessation of hostilities understanding of November 2024.
