Earlier today, United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert arrived in Israel for a three-day visit. Since assuming office last month, Hennis-Plasschaert has extensively engaged the Lebanese leadership and key interlocutors on ways to deescalate tensions across the Blue Line. Her visit to Israel comes ahead of planned United Nations Security Council consultations on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006) later this month. Discussions with Israeli officials are expected to focus on the need to restore calm and give space for a diplomatic resolution that enables displaced civilians on both sides to return home, as well as to address outstanding provisions under resolution 1701.

المنسّقة الخاصّة للأمم المتحدة جينين هينيس-بلاسخارت تزور اسرائيل

وصلت إلى إسرائيل في وقتٍ سابقٍ اليوم المنسّقة الخاصّة للأمم المتحدة في لبنان، جينين هينيس-بلاسخارت، في زيارةٍ تستغرق ثلاثة أيام. منذ تولّي السيدة هينيس-بلاسخارت منصبها الشهر الماضي، تواصلت بشكل مكثّف مع القيادات اللبنانية والأطراف المعنية لبحث سبل وقف التصعيد عبر الخط الأزرق. وتأتي زيارة المنسقة الأممية إلى إسرائيل تمهيدا لجلسة المشاورات المقرر أن يعقدها مجلس الأمن حول تنفيذ القرار ١٧٠١ (٢٠٠٦) قبل نهاية الشهر الجاري. من المتوقّع أن تُركّز مناقشاتها مع المسؤولين الإسرائيليين على الحاجة لاستعادة الهدوء وافساح المجال لحلٍّ دبلوماسيٍّ يمكن من خلاله للمدنيين النازحين من الجانبين العودة إلى ديارهم، بالإضافة إلى معالجة البنود العالقة في القرار ١٧٠١.
