Good afternoon. As always, I have been privileged to have a very good discussion and meeting with the Speaker.

I just returned from visits in the region and it was an important moment to review with the Speaker the challenges and risks as well as the opportunities for Lebanon. As you will recall, we are briefing in the coming weeks the Security Council on resolution 1701, but obviously also all the other issues that Lebanon is facing: the impact of the Syria crises, the developments in the region and of course also issues of political governance, not in the least the issue of the presidency and ways in which the international community can continue to support and assist Lebanon, the State of Lebanon, to really face all these parallel and interrelated challenges.
