The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag welcomes the announcement of the Lebanese army to deploy additional troops south of the Litani River as an important step towards the implementation of Security Council resolutions 2373 and 1701.

The Special Coordinator reiterates the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call of 13 September 2017 to support Lebanon, underscoring that strong national institutions and a strong army are the best preventive measures to mitigate the risk of conflict.
