UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon visits Moscow

United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Sigrid Kaag, met Friday 29 April in Moscow with Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov and other senior Russian officials. Discussions focused on the developments in Lebanon and the region, and their impact on the country's stability and security. ​

The Special Coordinator and Deputy Foreign Minister Bogdanov reviewed progress on the three pillars of the engagement of the UN in country. On Security Council resolution 1701,the Special Coordinator underscored the need to achieve progress on the  implementation of the resolution. The critical importance of effective and functioning institutions of state, and the urgency to resolve the Presidential vacuum were equally amongst the key themes discussed. In addition, the Special Coordinator discussed stabilisation support through humanitarian and longer term development assistance, benefitting vulnerable Lebanese citizens, as well as Syrian and Palestine refugees respectively. 

The visit to Moscow is part of the Special Coordinator’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders on Lebanon's stability and security.
