UN Special Coordinator Meets Lebanese Officials Ahead of Security Council Briefing
Ahead of her briefing to the UN Security Council on 16 March, UN Special Coordinator Joanna Wronecka discussed with Lebanese officials this week the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701. In addition to outlining what has been accomplished so far, the Special Coordinator underlined the need for progress on outstanding obligations to ensure the full implementation of the resolution by both Lebanon and Israel. In a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, the Special Coordinator also noted the importance of fulfilling key constitutional milestones in Lebanon, starting with the election of a president and the timely holding of municipal elections. The Special Coordinator reiterated to the Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces the UN's support to the LAF efforts to ensure the stability and security of Lebanon. The Special Coordinator also met the caretaker Foreign Minister and the caretaker Interior Minister as well as other relevant political representatives
