Discussions on Situation Along the Blue Line Ahead of Security Council Briefing
Following a recent rise in tension along Lebanon’s southern border, UN Special Coordinator Joanna Wronecka and UNIFIL Force Commander Maj. Gen. Aroldo Lazaro met with Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on 6 July with the participation of the caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bouhabib to discuss the importance of maintaining the calm along the Blue Line and respect for the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel. The Special Coordinator had visited Israel last week to also discuss developments related to the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 ahead of her briefing to the Security Council on 20 July. In that regard, the Special Coordinator held a round of meetings with the Beirut-based Ambassadors of Security Council members, including with the Ambassadors of Switzerland and Japan on 7 July.
