Joint Statement of the International Support Group for Lebanon following their meeting with President Michel Aoun

Members of the International Support Group for Lebanon met this morning with President Michel Aoun at the Presidential Palace in Baabda. They discussed the situation in Lebanon following the announcement of the offer of resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri. 

ISG members expressed their continuing concern regarding the situation and prevailing uncertainty in Lebanon. They appealed for Lebanon to continue to be shielded from tensions in the region. In this regard, they stressed the importance of restoring the vital balance of Lebanon’s State institutions, essential to Lebanon’s stability. Noting the positive political achievements of the past year, ISG members urge all sides to continue to work for Lebanon’s national interests.

ISG members praised President Aoun’s leadership in urging for calm and unity. They welcomed the steps taken to contain the political crisis and to safeguard the country’s unity, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity. In this regard, the ISG welcome the call of the President for Prime Minister Hariri to return to Lebanon.

In solidarity with Lebanon, ISG members reaffirmed their commitment to support the country, its leadership and its people during this difficult time.

The International Support Group has brought together the United Nations and the governments of China, France, Germany, Italy, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States, together with the European Union and the Arab League.  It was launched in September 2013 by the UN Secretary-General with former President Michel Sleiman to help mobilize support and assistance for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty and state institutions and to specifically encourage assistance for the Lebanese Army, Syrian refugees in Lebanon and host communities and government programs and public services impacted by the Syrian crisis.

Les membres du Groupe international de soutien pour le Liban ont rencontré dans la matinée le Président Michel Aoun au Palais présidentiel de Baabda. Ils ont abordé la situation au Liban à la suite de l’annonce de l’offre de démission du Premier Ministre Saad Hariri.

Les membres du GIS ont exprimé leur inquiétude continue face à la situation actuelle et à l’incertitude qui prévaut au Liban. Ils ont appelé le Liban à se maintenir à l’abri des tensions dans la région. A cet égard, ils ont souligné l’importance de restaurer l’équilibre vital des institutions étatiques du Liban, essentiel à la stabilité du pays. Notant les réalisations politiques positives de l’année écoulée, les membres du GIS appellent toutes les parties à continuer d’œuvrer dans l’intérêt national du Liban.

Les membres du GIS ont salué le leadership du Président Aoun dans ses appels au calme et à l’unité. Ils ont salué les mesures prises pour contenir la crise politique et sauvegarder l’unité, la stabilité, la souveraineté et l’intégrité territoriale du pays. A cet égard, les membres du GIS saluent l’appel du Président au retour du Premier Ministre au Liban.

En solidarité avec le Liban, les membres du GIS ont réaffirmé leur engagement à soutenir le pays, ses dirigeants et sa population en ces circonstances difficiles.

Le Groupe international de soutien a rassemblé les Nations Unies, les gouvernements de Chine, de France, d’Allemagne, d’Italie, de la Fédération russe, du Royaume Uni et des Etats-Unis, ainsi que l’Union européenne et la Ligue des Etats arabes. Lancé en 2013 par le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies avec l’ancien Président Michel Sleiman, le groupe contribue à mobiliser le soutien à la stabilité et la souveraineté du Liban ainsi qu’à ses institutions étatiques en vue d’encourager les aides à l’armée libanaise, aux réfugiés syriens au Liban, aux communautés hôtes et aux programmes gouvernementaux et services publics affectés par la crise syrienne.

إلتقى أعضاء مجموعة الدعم الدولية من أجل لبنان هذا الصباح مع فخامة رئيس الجمهورية ميشال عون في القصر الرئاسي في بعبدا. تناول البحث الوضع في لبنان بعد الاعلان عن طلب إستقالة رئيس مجلس الوزراء سعد الحريري.

عبَر أعضاء مجموعة الدعم الدولية عن قلقهم المستمر حول الوضع والغموض السائد في لبنان. وناشدوا إبقاء لبنان محمياً من التوترات في المنطقة. وفي هذا الاطار، شددوا على أهمية استعادة التوازن الحيوي لمؤسسات الدولة اللبنانية الذي هو ضروري لإستقرار لبنان. وفي إشارة إلى الانجازات السياسية الايجابية خلال العام الماضي، حث أعضاء المجموعة كافة الأطراف على مواصلة العمل من أجل مصالح لبنان الوطنية.

وأشاد أعضاء مجموعة الدعم الدولية بقيادة الرئيس عون في الدعوة إلى الهدوء والوحدة. ورحبوا بالخطوات المتخذة لاحتواء الأزمة السياسية ولحماية وحدة البلد واستقراره وسيادته وسلامة أراضيه. وفي هذا الاطار، رحب أعضاء مجموعة الدعم الدولية بدعوة رئيس الجمهورية إلى عودة الرئيس حريري إلى لبنان.

وتضامناً مع لبنان، أعاد أعضاء المجموعة تأكيد التزامهم بدعم لبنان وقيادته وشعبه خلال هذه الفترة الصعبة.
