United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert held a round of meetings with Lebanese government officials and political leaders this week on the cessation of hostilities and efforts to consolidate stability in Lebanon. The Special Coordinator discussed with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam opportunities to solidify the cessation of hostilities arrangement, including in the context of the talks taking place between Lebanon and Israel on Thursday and Friday in Washington, DC. A separate meeting with Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Gen. Rodolph Haykal focused on the need for increased support to the Lebanese army as it fulfills its duties in challenging and dangerous conditions. The Special Coordinator also discussed the latest domestic and regional developments with political leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri and Lebanese Forces party leader Samir Geagea.
