Good afternoon everybody,

I just had a meeting with His Excellency Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and as always it is a great honor to meet him. Today was my last meeting with him where I bid him farewell before I finish my tour in Lebanon very soon.  I expressed my deepest appreciation for the partnership that he and Lebanon have shown me and how I have been helped and supported as I have been implementing my mandate during the 14 months I have been here.

I also wished the Prime Minister-designate success in his efforts of forming a national unity government. This is essential both for the stability and continuity of the country’s state institutions and for enabling Lebanon to benefit fully from the road map of international support that was laid out at the conferences held in Rome, Paris and Brussels last year. I have been very pleased that I have taken part in the concrete manifestation of that international support for Lebanon, including through the participation and preparation of these conferences, last year.

I also thanked the Prime Minister for his continuous commitment to see full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701, which I believe is such an important element in enhancing stability and to ensure that Lebanon remains on the right course to what is enhanced peace and security. I also hope that the new government will continue to strive to fully implement and to fully meet the international obligations for Lebanon.

From the UN side, we will continue to work closely in partnership with Lebanon in support of the country’s stability, sovereignty and authority.

Finally, I am just very grateful that I had the chance to work with Prime Minister-designate Hariri during the time that I have been here.

 تصريح عقب لقائها مع رئيس مجلس الوزراء المكلف سعد الحريري

مساء الخير،

كان لي لقاء الآن مع رئيس الوزراء المكلف سعد الحريري وكما دائمًا، إنه لشرف كبير الالتقاء معه. كان اليوم لقائي الأخير معه وودعته قبل أن أنهي مهمتي في لبنان قريباً. لقد عبرت عن بالغ تقديري للشراكة والدعم الذي حظيت بهما منه ومن لبنان أثناء تأدية مهامي خلال الأربعة عشر شهراً لوجودي هنا.

تمنيت للرئيس المكلف النجاح في جهوده لتشكيل حكومة وحدة وطنية. وهذا أمر ضروري لاستقرار واستمرارية مؤسسات الدولة، ولتمكين لبنان من الاستفادة بالكامل من خريطة طريق الدعم الدولي المنصوص عليها في المؤتمرات التي عقدت في روما وباريس وبروكسل في العام الماضي. لقد سررت جداً بمشاركتي في تجسيد هذا الدعم الدولي للبنان، بما في ذلك من خلال المشاركة والتحضير لتلك المؤتمرات أثناء العام الماضي.

وشكرت الرئيس المكلف على التزامه المستمر بتطبيق القرار 1701 بالكامل، والذي أعتقد أنه مهم جداً لتعزيز الاستقرار وضمان بقاء لبنان على المسار الصحيح نحو تعزيز السلام والأمن. كما آمل أن تستمر الحكومة بالسعي لتطبيق التزامات لبنان الدولية.

من جهة الأمم المتحدة، سنواصل العمل عن كثب بالشراكة مع لبنان لدعم استقرار البلد وسيادته وسلطته.

أخيراً، أنا ممتنة لأنني حظيت بفرصة العمل مع رئيس الوزراء المكلف الحريري خلال الفترة التي أمضيتها هنا.
