Special Coordinator Wronecka Holds Round of Farewell Meetings
UN Special Coordinator Joanna Wronecka held a round of farewell meetings with Lebanese political and religious leaders ahead of her departure from Lebanon at the end of the month to thank them for the fruitful cooperation they shared during her three-year mission. The Special Coordinator met caretaker Prime Minister Nabih Mikati and with caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bouhabib. She emphasized the importance of the implementation of Resolution 1701 and how the election of a President, reforms and institutional building are key for Lebanon’s stability. In a meeting with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros El-Rahi, the Special Coordinator hoped that Lebanon’s religious leaders would continue to act as a bridging point in times of hardship and spearhead efforts to promote coexistence and understanding. She also met with parliamentarians and representatives of the diplomatic community in Lebanon.
