On Sunday afternoon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, will arrive in Lebanon for a state visit.

At this challenging time for Lebanon, this will be a visit of solidarity during which the Secretary-General will reaffirm the support of the entire UN family – from our political teams and peacekeepers to our humanitarian aid workers and development professionals – for the country and its people. 

The Secretary-General will meet with Government officials, including President Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, as well as a number of religious leaders and civil society representatives.  

He will pay tribute to the victims of the Beirut Port blast and will also undertake field visits to interact with people impacted by the numerous crises the country has been facing.

Finally, the Secretary-General will travel to southern Lebanon to visit the UN Interim Force in Lebanon and tour parts of the Blue Line. 

The Secretary-General will depart Lebanon on 22 December.

إعلان عن زيارة الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة إلى لبنان

بيروت، 16 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2021- سيصل الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، أنطونيو غوتيريش، بعد ظهر يوم الأحد القادم إلى لبنان في زيارةٍ رسمية.

في هذه المرحلة الحرجة التي يمر بها لبنان، ستكون هذه الزيارة ذات طابع تضامني سيُعيد خلالها الأمين العام التأكيد على دعم أسرة الأمم المتحدة برمّتها – البعثة السياسية وقوات حفظ السلام والعاملين في مجالات الدعم الإنساني والاغاثي – للبنان وشعبه.

سيلتقي الأمين العام بمسؤولين حكوميين، على رأسهم رئيس الجمهورية ميشال عون، ورئيس مجلس النواب نبيه برّي، ورئيس مجلس الوزراء نجيب ميقاتي، إضافةً إلى عدد من القادة الدينيين وممثّلين عن المجتمع المدني.

وتكريماً لأرواح ضحايا انفجار مرفأ بيروت، سيقف الأمين العام دقيقة صمت في المرفأ. كما سيقوم بزيارات ميدانية يلتقي خلالها بالمتضرّرين من الأزمات المتعدّدة التي تواجهها البلاد.

وأخيراً، سيتوجه الأمين العام إلى جنوب لبنان لزيارة قوات اليونيفيل وللقيام بجولة على الخط الأزرق.

سيغادر الأمين العام لبنان في 22 كانون الأول/ديسمبر.
