Ms. Joanna Wronecka, the newly appointed UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, arrived today in Beirut to take up her new position. Ms. Wronecka will serve as the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Lebanon and Head of Mission of the United Nations Office of the Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL).

“It is an honour to serve with the United Nations in Lebanon,” said Ms. Wronecka upon her arrival at Beirut airport. “I regret that the country is passing through this very challenging time and my thoughts are with all those who are struggling under the burden of the overlapping crises facing their country,” she added. “I will work with all partners in Lebanon and the international community, and with the broader UN family, to support Lebanon and its people to strengthen democratic peace, security, stability and socio-economic development.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Ms. Wronecka (Poland) on 1 April. Ms. Wronecka brings over 25 years of experience in diplomacy, international security and Middle East affairs.

المنسقة الخاصة للأمم المتحدة يوانّا فرونِتسكا تصل إلى لبنان

وصلت اليوم الى بيروت السيدة يوانّا فرونِتسكا، المنسقة الخاصة للأمم المتحدة المعينة حديثاً في لبنان، لتولي منصبها الجديد. ستشغل السيدة فرونِتسكا منصب الممثلة الخاصة للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة في لبنان ورئيسة بعثة مكتب المنسق الخاص للأمم المتحدة في لبنان (UNSCOL).

قالت السيدة فرونِتسكا لدى وصولها إلى مطار بيروت: "إنه شرف كبير أن أعمل مع الأمم المتحدة في لبنان." واضافت: "يؤسفني أن البلاد تمر بهذه الأوقات العصيبة للغاية وتفكيري موجه الى كل الذين يرزحون تحت وطأة الأزمات المتداخلة التي تواجه بلادهم." وقالت ايضاً: "سوف أعمل مع جميع الشركاء في لبنان والمجتمع الدولي ومع أسرة الأمم المتحدة لدعم لبنان وشعبه بهدف تعزيز السلام الديمقراطي والأمن والاستقرار والتنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية."

وكان قد أعلن الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش عن تعيين السيدة فرونِتسكا، البولندية الجنسية، في 1 نيسان. وتتمتع السيدة فرونتسكا بخبرة تزيد عن 25 عاماً في الدبلوماسية والأمن الدولي وشؤون الشرق الأوسط.
