UN Special Coordinator Wronecka Visits Egypt

As part of her regular consultations with key regional and international stakeholders, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka visited Egypt on 13 and 14 November. She met with officials from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and from the Cairo-based League of Arab States to discuss the situation in Lebanon and how best to coordinate international efforts in support of Lebanon’s stability, security and recovery. 

With Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Aboul Gheit, the Special Coordinator underlined the importance of electing a new President without further delay and emphasized the need for Lebanese stakeholders to work together and act responsibly for the benefit of the country and its people. 

The Special Coordinator also held political consultations with the Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Alaa Moussa, with a focus on the reform agenda and the importance of measures that prioritize Lebanon’s interests and stability. The Special Coordinator also met members of the diplomatic community based in Cairo, including the Ambassadors of the US and the EU.
