REMARKS AT MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE
ON SUPPORT FOR THE UNITED NATIONS RELIEF AND WORKS AGENCY
FOR PALESTINE REFUGEES IN THE NEAR EAST

Ladies and Gentlemen,
12 Feb 2018 - International funding for Lebanon in 2017 amounted to USD 1.68 billion, as shown by the funding update released by the Office of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon.
This amount includes a total of USD 1.37 billion disbursed by donors in 2017 and USD 309.6 million carried over from 2016 by implementing partners.
The Secretary-General is following closely the alarming military escalation throughout Syria and the dangerous spillover across its borders.
The latest events come as the Syrian people suffer through one of the most violent periods in nearly seven years of conflict. Over 1,000 civilian casualties from airstrikes were reported in the first week of February alone.
26 Jan 2018 - United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr. Miroslav Jenča, visited Lebanon from 25 to 26 January 2018. He met with President Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri, Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouk and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun. He also met with members of parliament, representatives of civil society and the diplomatic community, and visited the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and Blue Line.
26 Dec 2017 - On Sunday morning, 24 December, the General Assembly approved the Regular Budget for 2018-2019 at an amount of $5.397 billion. This amount sets the budget level around $286M (or 5%) below the final approved level for 2016-2017, and $193M below the initially proposed budget level for 2018-2019, including all “add-on’s”.
18 Dec 2017 - UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Pernille Dahler Kardel, met this morning with President Michel Aoun and separately with Prime Minister Saad Hariri. She had met with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri last week.
From day one as Secretary-General of the United Nations, I have consistently spoken out against any unilateral measures that would jeopardize the prospect of peace for Israelis and Palestinians.
25 Nov 2017 - Saturday 25 November 2017 marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. On this occasion, the Gender Working Group , under the umbrella of the United Nations System in Lebanon, joins forces to launch the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, aiming at raising people’s awareness of gender-based violence (GBV) and gender inequality worldwide and in Lebanon.
13 Sep 2017 - UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ms. Sigrid Kaag met this morning with Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun. The Special Coordinator reiterated her condolences to the families of the soldiers killed, and extended her best wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.
