03 May 2023 - The UN, Lebanon’s Ministry of Information, the media as well civil society activities, academics and students marked on 3 May the World Press Freedom Day at a conference organized by UNESCO-Beirut. Focusing on the global theme of “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights,” the conference elaborated on press freedom as an underpinning of all other human rights. -
03 Apr 2023 - The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, welcomes today’s announcement by Lebanon’s caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities calling for municipal elections during 7 May through 28 May 2023. Conducting the municipal elections is important for adhering to Lebanon’s constitutional timelines and democratic practices, at a time when the country is already facing a presidential vacancy and widespread institutional paralysis.
