    16 Jun 2023 - Taking note of the June 14 vote in Parliament, the International Support Group (ISG) regrets that Lebanon has yet to elect a president after 12 inconclusive presidential election sessions.
  • 19 May 2023 - UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka held a round of meetings with Lebanese officials and foreign stakeholders ahead of the Summit of the Arab League that took place on 19 May in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In a meeting with caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah BouHabib, the Special Coordinator discussed regional developments and the Syrian refugee file ahead of the Arab summit.

  • 05 May 2023 - In a round of meetings with Lebanese representatives, UN Special Coordinator Joanna Wronecka stressed the urgent need for solutions to end the over six months presidential vacuum in Lebanon.  The Special Coordinator underlined the importance of ensuring continuity in the work of state institutions and the delivery of services to citizens during a meeting with caretaker Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi.

Focusing on the global theme of “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights,” the conference elaborated on press freedom as an underpinning of all other human rights.
  • 03 Apr 2023 - The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, welcomes today’s announcement by Lebanon’s caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities calling for municipal elections during 7 May through 28 May 2023. Conducting the municipal elections is important for adhering to Lebanon’s constitutional timelines and democratic practices, at a time when the country is already facing a presidential vacancy and widespread institutional paralysis.
